It was a humbling day for me to realize that my brain is not strong enough to win hand to hand combat with Satan. He is too smart. He can draw me away from true principles, in other words, he can get me to forget what I know is true, about myself, about life, about just about anything, then he “kills” me.
As you will find in more than one scripture (reader, feel free to find references), sometimes we fall because we refuse to follow through on the “small and simple” methods of fighting the war.
When in the heat of battle, I found that grabbing onto truth in general was not strong enough. I needed true principles that were highly specialized to my current situation. I needed concise, sharp truth, that I could quickly and easily access. I discovered that a simple handful of 3×5 cards, if used correctly, could defeat Satan. I have found the following system to be very powerful for my fellow warriors.
Step 1: Create a new 3×5 card everyday. Use your daily reading and pondering time to find an idea, or a principle that matters to you. Don’t worry, you don’t need to find “the best” idea. You only need to find a good one that has meaning to you. It doesn’t matter how long it is. Write it on a 3×5 card, and if possible, memorize it. Do this every day.
Step 2: As you acquire a stack of cards, take all the cards that were created before today and shuffle them. With a prayer in your heart, deal off about 5 of them. (It is amazing what God can do with a shuffled deck.) Set the rest of the deck aside for tomorrow.
Step 3: Add the new card to this set of 5. Review the half dozen cards almost hourly if possible. If you are attacked (by Satan) quickly pull out the cards and read them out loud. Work to re-memorize all 6 of the cards by the end of the day. Repeat the whole process again tomorrow. Watch miracles happen in your mind! Watch yourself become quick and accurate with the “sword of truth” (ref?)!
