In your Sons of Helaman groups, do the young men learn new inappropriate behaviors from each other as they tell their stories?

I got the following question in an email recently:

“In your Sons of Helaman groups, do the young men learn new inappropriate behaviors from each other as they tell their stories?”

I replied with the following:
Your question/concern is similar to the question we get from many of the parents of new young men.  I had the same concern when the program was first created.  Here is the good news:  We have learned the there is no need during treatment to talk about the details of what happens in a “lost battle” in order to overcome the addiction.  So, in group, we refer to all mis-behaviors as “lost battles”.  The focus is on what happens before the lost battles.  We have had no complaints from parents about young men learning new mis-behaviors.  I hope that resolves your concern.”
