Sons of Helaman is a spiritual-psychological training program for teen boys (ages 13-18) focused on gaining mastery over unwanted sexual behaviors, compulsive screen use, and other value-inconsistent actions. It combines tactical training with gospel principles to help boys become confident, Christlike men.
No. Sons of Helaman is not a support group. It is a rigorous, training-focused program where boys practice tactical responses to real-life situations, similar to sports training or a military boot camp.
Boys learn self-mastery through a structured, daily system of six tasks called the ‘daily squares,’ which include prayer, scripture study, journaling, service, accountability, and replacing a negative behavior with a positive one. The goal is to complete 28 consecutive days of these tasks to graduate.
A ‘lost battle’ refers to any behavior outside a young man’s own value system. No boy discusses specifics of what they did; instead, slips are simply referred to as ‘lost battles.’ This approach maintains a shame-free environment where boys can learn without being exposed to unfamiliar or unhealthy behaviors.
Boys receive tactical training on identifying and resisting temptation through psychological and spiritual tools, such as the Chemical Scale and Satanic Spin. They rehearse real-world scenarios (e.g., being home alone, attending dances, unexpected temptations) and practice responses in a safe, masculine, and humorous environment.
Sons of Helaman teaches boys that devices are tools, not inherently evil. Training includes planning device use, managing screen time in public locations, and maintaining spiritual safety before engaging with any technology.
Parents are encouraged to attend the Eternal Warriors Workshop, where they learn self-mastery alongside their sons. They can also quietly report concerns to their son’s Personal Warrior Trainer (PWT), allowing the PWT to provide targeted support without parental micromanagement.
Boys who complete the program often experience increased self-discipline, emotional regulation, academic success, and mission readiness. Over 2,000 alumni have successfully served missions after completing the program.
A PWT is a mentor assigned to keep each boy consistent with his daily squares, similar to a sports coach. This provides accountability while relieving parents from the pressure of enforcing the program.
To enroll, fill out a form, choose a group that fits your schedule, schedule a 1-on-1 intake session with the group leader, and begin weekly group sessions. Parents can also join the Eternal Warriors Workshop to support their son’s progress.
